Pizza, pizza, and more pizza! California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) is known for its pies topped with everything from barbecue chicken to red chile pork. Every day, the in-house bakery produces nearly 20 different types of pizzas — from veggie to specialty — that are baked fresh in an 800-degree oven within two minutes of order placement.

As one customer put it: “It’s worth it. The quality of the product is outstanding. Not only is the pizza hot and fresh, but it’s also cooked to order, so you know it will definitely be edible.” The chain, which has more than 130 locations in five states, prides itself on its freshness and quality for an unbeatable price.

At CPK’s new Ocean Beach location, where I recently ate a pie made with sweet corn and bacon, I confirmed that this claim is indeed true. This restaurant is a great deal.

The prices are very reasonable, and every pizza I’ve tried so far has been delicious. Last Saturday, my friends and I decided to order the “Laid Back Louie,” which was topped with pepperoni, Italian sausage, mozzarella cheese, bacon, mushrooms, caramelized onions and tomatoes.

To save a few bucks on the side dish (which were definitely worth the extra two bucks), we asked for several breadsticks to split instead of getting an individual serving of pasta or garlic bread. Check out California Pizza Kitchen Menu Prices.

About California Pizza Kitchen

In the late 80s, a group of friends felt it was time for a new concept in the restaurant industry. So earlier in 1985, T Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax created what was to become the first California Pizza Kitchen.

The two were best friends who had one thing in mind: they wanted to develop a dining concept that took your order and brought it right out. The idea was simple enough: purchase affordable ingredients, offer them at reasonable prices, and cook with fresh produce whenever possible.

They believed that a good pizza is all about the crust. The pizzas were to be served “California style” as in lots of vegetables and no meat. The original location was opened at the corner of Highland Avenue and Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

The first store was a success, receiving many awards including multiple “best-ofs”. While the first store was a full service restaurant with waiters, it appealed to customers.

There was a lot of enthusiasm surrounding the pizzas and customers were able to have them brought right to their table. The pizzas had a variety of flavors and there was an option for everyone.

It didn’t take long for customers to begin appreciating the friendly service as well as the quality ingredients. California Pizza Kitchen also wanted to give back to the community.

This was done by supporting local charities such as Elton John’s AIDS foundation, charity: water, Save the Children, and others.
